About the Work in Transept:Traverse

Transcendence

The work consists of partially burned and melted candles.
The use of candles is symbolic for meditative and spiritual
purposes and can be perceived as a metaphor conveying
many layered meanings.
Candles are embraced by almost every faith, creed and
nationality they signify unity.

For me they represent the multiplicity of existence, be it for
lighting, joy, peace, sadness, hope or for the reverence of the
divine

Biography

My origins are Eastern European. My background is Russian. I have lived and worked in England for many years. I live within the dichotomy of Eastern and Western European culture.
I have gained an MA in Fine Art at Brighton University and BA. Hons at Chichester University and have exhibited widely in this country and abroad

The focus of my work is on displacement and ambivalence aiming to address the vulnerable and fragmented state of human condition.

The majority of my work is based on experimentation using the processes of intuition and intention.
My present art practice crosses over different boundaries – incorporating installations, drawings, painting , printmaking, photography. I use any of this media to address my particular concerns.
Very often my work is constructed from unconventional and organic materials such as bread, salt burning candles etc., aiming to express fragile or ephemeral states of being.
