Liz Hanan

About the work in Transept:Traverse

The marks left behind from previous activity or process form the basis of my work. Residual matter acts as a memorial to a particular event or life experience whereby a diary is created. The process by which my work evolves is a vital element of its identity. This body of work endeavours to communicate the passing of time, the shoes representing the visitors to the cathedral during the last 900 years since the consecration of the building. Purity and equality are symbolized by the uniform colour and formation of the pieces. The highly reflected backdrop, combined with the use of raked borrowed light, provides a surface on which the pieces are reflected, echoing their position and form.

Biography

Liz Hanan graduated from Chichester University in 2007, gaining a BA (Hons) Fine Art. Predominantly a painter, she also works with ceramics and photography. She has exhibited on the Open Doors Art Trail and is currently showing her work in various commercial venues locally. A regular traveller, Hanan incorporates her work as an artist with that of her role as an air ambulance nurse. An ongoing project involves leaving behind a piece of her work as a mark of her journey, with the photographic documentation of the event acting as a diary.

A recent member of Artel, a group of local contemporary artists, she is working towards forthcoming exhibitions.
