Kay Mawer
About work for Transept:Traverse
Kay’s work has developed through the investigation of process, particularly the process of repetition and ritual. The exploration of faith - and often the erosion of such, has been the basis for ongoing research. ‘The Bones Of It’ explores the tactile notions of prayer, a reflection of quiet contemplation of one’s own faith.
Biography
After 5 years Fine Art training, one baby, half a ton of clay, sore hands from squeezing clay, 800 hours of digital video footage, square eyes from staring at computer screen, chaos everywhere at home, reams of paper, a patient partner, too many late nights, incessant library visits, aching muscles, another baby (more aching muscles) and postmodern performance whilst breastfeeding, oh, and rather alot of wine, and not to mention the cleanest loo on the block whilst videoing footage for her installation ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’, Kay finally graduated from Chichester University in 2007 with a First Class degree, and an award from the Edward James Foundation for her degree show work.
The winning participant of a Channel 4 pilot programme ‘The Exhibitionists’ (The Apprentice meets Ready Steady, ART!) Kay is current developing work for her first solo show. In juggling family art and career aspirations, Kay is presently filling her days working on design projects for textile design company Clothkits.
