About The Work in Transept:Traverse
3 PAINTINGS - oil on canvas
Sacred or holy places are found in different cultures all over the world. Such places are frequently marked or embellished by architectural structures and art. Chichester Cathedral is one of those places.
This year in 2008 it is celebrating 900 years since its consecration. The John Piper screen represents the Trinity in symbolic form. The doctrine of the Trinity is important because it brings humanity face to face with the mystery of God. It is the foundation of much Christian worship and liturgy. The full name of the Cathedral is “The Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity”.
In the three canvases that I have been painting I have put forward my interpretation of the Trinity. Drawing on the architecture of the Cathedral and the colours of the stained glass and other art works, my intention is to create a sense of place, a place of contemplation and worship.
