Chichester based arts projects...

Chichester Art School For Young People.

For booking information, contact: Jayne Sandys-Renton

In January ‘04 Jayne Sandys-Renton set up the ‘Art School for Young People’. The Chichester Art School for Young People runs an ongoing series of art classes which intends to extend the young people's ART skills, and develop their talents. Group size would be 10 students maximum per age group, to allow those partaking to get the most out of the activities. The ART activities offered would be Drawing (including life drawing), Painting and Sculpture. They would aim to improve their skills, be large scale and expressive, and allow them to try out new styles.

Many young people express a desire to spend more time making Art than is available for them at secondary school. Jayne become aware that young people who love making Art need to be able to develop their talents outside school just as others might learn the piano or guitar. Recently Jayne worked with students from two local schools as part of a project with Pallant House Museum and Art Gallery. She was impressed at how receptive they were to creative input, and how adept they were at discussing Art. In response, she has prepared a series of projects that will progress and develop over the year, giving pupils a chance to learn processes and techniques that will develop their artistic skills in a variety of materials and styles. (Young people may still join at any time). She will look at contemporary and traditional Art, involve them in group discussions about the value of different styles and approaches, and encourage them to express their own ideas about art. The course is aimed at creative students who really enjoy making Art but who want to get better at painting, drawing and/or sculpture.
