Barry began painting in 1970 on holiday in Italy and is self-taught. Throughout the 1980’s Barry exhibited at the Guildhall, London with SEFAS, the South Eastern and International Fed. Of Art Societies and was awarded the first prize in 1984 in modern painting category. He was a regular exhibitor at the Trinity Gallery in Arundel, and also shows regularly at the Chichester Open, Arundel Gallery Trail, Open Doors art trail and is a full member the Association of Sussex Artists. In 2004 with his partner Carolyn, Barry collaborated on a large installation for the Minerva Theatre in Chichester titled ”Interior Meadow” this work was adapted with the addition of tall woven willow friar’s made by Barry and included in the “Art in the Park” exhibition in Guildhall, Priory Park, Chichester this year. 2005 started early with a show at Gallery 238 in Dorking followed by the yearly exhibition held at his studio/gallery in Walberton as part of the Open Doors art trail each May. Barry and Carolyn also have work on permanent show at restaurants in Lewis, Epsom and Dorking.
Barry has many clients who regularly purchase work and he is well known locally for his expressive and experimental paintings. Using every type of traditional paint and many more industrial paints Barry’s work is constantly challenging and pushing boundaries, his work can’t be categorised as a specific style as each series of work reflects Barry’s experimental nature.
